This is MEC Chairman Roger Cox with the MEC Hotline update for Thursday,
December 16. Tonight’s topics are:
PBS Update
Accepting Junior Assign Over 90
Your fellow pilots are starting to police this. We’re getting lots of calls from
pilots who are checking totals.
For years, this pilot group has complained about flying too much and not having enough
days off, especially during months with training. Do you want to do something about it or
not?
Maestro Home Access Update
Fenix Flight
If you do not fall under either of these categories, and you do not
receive the magazine within the next week or so, please call the MEC office to let us
know, so we can find out why you didn’t get your copy, and make sure you get the
November-December issue, as well as future issues.
Local Council Meeting
For those of you who want to meet a real professional negotiator, come
hear guest speaker Ken Cooper, ALPA’s assistant director of Representation. Members
of our Negotiating Committee will also be present to report and answer your questions.
Holiday Office Hours
That’s it for tonight. The next hotline update will be on
Wednesday, December 22. We appreciate your listening, and we’ll talk to you next week.

The PBS Committee has been working hard this week on adjustments to the software and
readiness. There’s a new KIT system box on the menu for PBS, and there will be a PBS
update there tonight. Please check that box for more news on PBS.
Sometimes contracts can be confusing. Let me give you an example. Section 25.P.1. of our
contract says junior assignment is mandatory. On the other hand, section 12.A.6 says the
maximum pay cap is 90 hours. Are you confused about how this works? Apparently 26 pilots
were last bid period, because that’s how many were credited with over 100 hours. The
cap is designed to protect you from being pushed beyond reason. Our cap is the highest in
the industry. If scheduling calls to JA you, ask them, “will this project me over
90?” If so, you don’t have to go, and you shouldn’t go. Remember, this call
is on tape.
Maestro Home Access has been updated for better performance and the inevitable Y2K
compatibility. All Maestro Home Access users must run their Maestro update program to
download the latest version of the program. After the update has been run, you MUST
re-boot your computer before running the new version of Maestro Home Access. If you
don’t update Maestro to the latest version, you will receive an error message that
says “Unable to connect to Mastro.”
After learning that several pilots still have not received the November-December issue of
the Fenix Flight, we contacted the ALPA print shop for an explanation. Apparently,
the print shop failed to mail the magazine to AWA pilot retirees and about 200 pilots who
had, at some point, notified ALPA that they only wanted union information via email. If
you fall under one of these two groups, you will receive the Fenix Flight within
the next week. Copies will be mailed to you via first class mail on Friday, Dec. 17.
Both the MEC and LEC will hold their regular meetings on Tuesday, January 11, 2000. The
MEC meeting is at 9am; the LEC meeting will be at 5:30pm at the Doubletree. A Local
Council meeting will follow the LEC meeting at 6pm.
The MEC office will be closed for the Christmas holiday on Thursday, December 23 and
Friday, December 24. The office will also be closed on Friday, December 31, for the New
Year’s Holiday.
