MEC and Local
Council Meetings

The next local council
meeting will be held Tuesday, March 14 at 6pm at the Best Western Grace Inn in Ahwatukee.
The hotel is located on the SW corner of I-10 and Elliott Road in Ahwatukee. Ample seating
and refreshments will be available and we encourage you to attend

Family Awareness
Event

This event will center
around a “chili cook-off”, however as earlier reported chili will not be the
primary source of food. Hotdogs and hamburgers will be available for children and adults
as well. We encourage any member or their spouse that have a great chili recipe, to enter
the contest. Prizes will consist of a $100 dollar first place winner, and a $50 second
place winner. If you intend to enter the contest, please check the Family Awareness
Committee page on the web site at www.awalpa.org, or
contact Sandi Siniaho at the MEC office, as there are specific rules that must be followed
in order to be eligible.

Anyone planning to
attend the social event must RSVP to Sandi Siniaho at the MEC office by March 6th.

The Great Eagle
Meltdown

The continuing
embarrassment suffered by each and every employee of this airline must stop.

That’s it for this week. The next
hotline will be Thursday, March 4. Thanks for listening. And remember, wear your ALPA pin
and green badge as a sign of our solidarity.

  MEC Hotline

Good evening, this is MEC Vice Chairman Bill
Archer with the MEC Hotline update for Thursday, February 24. Tonight’s topics are:

The Negotiating Committee will begin week two of negations with the company negotiators on
Feb. 28 here in PHX. Highlights of the first negotiating session, held the week of
February 7, will be included in the February 26 issue of Table Talk. That issue
will be mailed to your homes next week.

The premiere issue of Family Awareness News has been mailed to your homes. Please
read it, share it with your spouse, and then file it in your Contract 2000 binder. Family
Awareness News
is a publication of your Family Awareness Committee, and will be
published at least three times a year. Included in this first issue is a survey. Please
complete the survey and return it to the MEC office as soon as possible. The information
you provide on the survey will remain confidential and be very beneficial to our contract
communications planning.

In support of our Negotiating Committee’s efforts, all pilots are again encouraged to
wear your green pin backs with your ALPA pin. Every pilot received a green pin back on
February 7 via their T4 mailbox. If you do not have one, call the MEC office and we will
mail one to you. Every pilot on the property should wear their green pin back every time
they fly. We have been contacted by other union groups at America West who want to show
solidarity by wearing our green pin backs very much like we wore ribbons in support of the
AFA negotiations. Plans are in effect to provide the other union groups sufficient amounts
of these green pin backs. In the mean time, please feel free to give them yours and we
will send you a new one upon request.

So far, more than 560 pilots have donated to the Flight Pay Loss fund, bringing our year
2000 total to over $50,000. It’s a great start for the year, but our goal is to have
1,700 pilots on our Flight Pay Loss donor list. Donating one hour of flight pay means more
than financial support. It is a statement to management and our pilots that you and your
family support an industry standard contract. For your donation, you will be mailed a
white and gold contract 2000 lapel pin.

The MEC meeting will be held on March 14th at 9am in the MEC office conference
room. Seating is limited , but you are welcome to attend

The Family Awareness Committee has scheduled another social event for Saturday, March 11,
from 4pm to 7pm, at the Confederate Air Force Hangar located at Falcon Field in Mesa. This
event is for all pilots in good standing and their families members.

We are all aware of the great embarrassment and tremendous financial loss that America
West Airlines suffered last week by the continuing failure of “the eagle flight
planning hardware.” Several questions remain unanswered. For example, where was the
airline’s senior management, public relations officer, and last but certainly not least,
what is senior management doing to fix this continuing problem.
