Corporate Policies on Business Ethics

Like the company’s debacle two weeks ago with sending out Pilot Records
Improvement Act notices to pilots not even required to provide such information,
management has again failed to notify the union of policies affecting our labor group.
This behavior truly demonstrates management’s indifference towards organized labor,
and its intransigence in working with ALPA. It is conduct like this that questions whether
management can negotiate a contract in good faith.

We are in the process of obtaining and reviewing the “Corporate Policies on
Business Ethics” pamphlet. Until our attorneys can thoroughly review the materials,
we suggest that you DO NOT sign and return the form.

Retirement Dinner
If you have not yet RSVP’d to attend the MEC Pilot Retirement Dinner next Tuesday,
June 6, at the Doubletree Hotel, you have until 5pm tomorrow, June 2, to do so. All active
and retired pilots and their spouses are invited to attend this very special event
honoring our past and most recent retirees. The hotel is located at the corner of 44th
and Van Buren streets in Phoenix. The dinner is free for our recently retired members, but
there will be a $25 charge per person for all other attendees. Come and share some
memories with those who paved the way for all of us at America West. The festivities begin
at 6:30 pm.

That’s it for this week. Show your support of the Negotiating Committee and your union
by wearing your ALPA pin, and green badge. The next hotline update will be on Thursday,
June 8. Thanks for listening.

  MEC Hotline

Good evening, this is MEC Vice
Chairman Bill Archer with tonight’s hotline message for Thursday, June 1st. Tonight’s
topics are:

We have received several calls from pilots indicating that they received an America West
pamphlet in their T-4 boxes entitled “Corporate Policies on Business Ethics.”
Apparently, this pamphlet includes an acknowledgement form for you to sign and return,
indicating that you are in compliance with the policies, and if not, why not.

The next local council meeting will be held Tuesday, June 13th, also at the DoubleTree
Hotel, 44th and Van Buren. Our special guest for this meeting will be America
West Chief Pilot, Captain J. R. Baker. Captain Baker will share with us his view from the
middle. All pilots in good standing are encouraged to attend.

The May issue of Table Talk was delayed somewhat due to busy schedules; however,
the issue has been sent to the printer, and should arrive in your home mailbox within the
next week or so.

In the meantime, the Negotiating Committee will return to the negotiating table June 5-9
here in Phoenix. Tentative issues on the agenda include deadheading, miscellaneous flying,
vacancies, leaves of absence, and training. As usual, please stay informed of the contract
issues by reading Table Talk each month, and listening the Negotiating Committee’s
weekly hotline message on the KIT system. If you have questions or comments about the
negotiations, please submit them via the comment forms in each Table Talk issue. These
forms are also available in the T4 crew lounge and on the Contract 2000 page of the MEC
web site.

As a reminder, ALPA has imposed a member-wide embargo on ALL LAHSO
operations at all airports. If you encounter any problems concerning LAHSO while flying,
please leave a message on the Central Air Safety Committee KIT system mailbox so that they
may address the issue.

I would also like to remind pilots that cutting deals with Crew Scheduling undermines
everything that our Negotiating Committee is trying to accomplish on our behalf at the
negotiating table. If you still don’t know what a “deal” is, consult LEC
Chairman Jack Ryan’s letter, which was sent to you earlier this year. It details
exactly what you should not be doing to violate the contract.
