LAHSO Survey

The Central Air Safety Committee has posted a LAHSO Survey Sheet in the literature
holders at the Phoenix crew lounge. If you observe LAHSO approaches being conducted,
please complete the survey and return it to the ALPA office. You can fax the survey to
602-306-4119, or put it in the ALPA box in the crew lounge. More details are available on
the Safety hotline and on the ALPA website.

R&I

One more note of interest on R&I. Please call America West’s Benefits
department first with your problem. If you can’t get a satisfactory solution from
AWA, then call the R&I Committee. Our R&I guys field about 30 calls per week, many
of which should be directed to Employee Benefits directly. Remember folks, these guys are
volunteers working on your behalf on their own time.

Codes Of Ethics

That’s it for this week. Show your support of the Negotiating Committee and your union
by wearing your ALPA pin, and green badge. The next hotline update will be on Thursday,
June 15. Thanks for listening.

  MEC Hotline

Good evening, this is MEC
Chairman Roger Cox with the hotline message for Thursday, June 8th. Tonight’s topics
are:

I would like to remind all of you that ALPA has imposed a moratorium on all LAHSO
clearances due to safety concerns about the procedure. That means, under no circumstances
are we to accept any land-and-hold-short clearances at any time at any airport. Until the
FAA adequately addresses ALPA’s safety concerns, we will not participate in any LAHSO
operations. However, old habits die hard. Some of us may be accepting LAHSO clearances
without thinking. Think again.

The PBS and scheduling committees have new updates on this KIT system. When you’re
finished with this message, just follow the prompts from the main menu.

All pilots in good standing are encouraged to attend the next local council meeting on
Tuesday, June 13th, at the DoubleTree Hotel. America West Chief Pilot J.R.
Baker will be the guest speaker. J.R. will share with us his view from the middle. This
should be an educational and informative meeting.

Our R&I committee, headed up by Joe Heil, is one of our most active groups.
They’ve updated their KIT hotline and the website with lots of useful information,
and once again, I urge you to check them out. One special R&I note I want to bring to
your attention: the Employee Benefits department now has two specialists answering their
phones. The numbers to call are (480) 693-8913 and (480) 693-8912. Additionally if you
have a CIGNA specific problem, you can call Mary Wade, AWA’s CIGNA rep at (480) 693-8845.

Recently each of you received a booklet entitled “Corporate Policies on Business
Ethics.” We understand that this policy was mandated by the Board of Directors and
was given to everyone as a matter of course. We’re glad to see the Board stand up in
favor of ethical behavior. We’re a little ahead of them on this one: ALPA has had a
code of ethics for over 40 years. We never had to sign a little piece of paper saying we
were going to comply with our code. We just did it. So here’s my advice: throw away
the little piece of paper and just keep on leading with integrity like you always have.
