FOQA Road-shows

The road-shows began yesterday, June 21
in the Dispatch Conference Room, and will continue through tomorrow, June 23. If you
haven’t stopped by the previous road-shows, the next one is scheduled for 10am to 1pm
tomorrow in the Dispatch Conference Room. I encourage all of our pilots to attend the
road-show, get the brochure, and learn as much as possible about this very important
program.

  MEC Hotline

Good evening, this is MEC Chairman Roger Cox
with the hotline message for Thursday, June 22nd. Tonight’s topics are:

The Central Air Safety Committee has been holding road-shows to discuss the implementation
of the Flight Operations Quality Assurance program, or FOQA, at America West.

On Tuesday, a Just the Facts issue was posted in the literature holders in the T4
crew lounge. The issue provides details of the interim side letter negotiated with the
company that will continue the retirement supplement payments to pilots retiring this
year. Both the Just the Facts and the side letter are also available for viewing on
the MEC web site. Just go to the Communications Committee web page to view both documents.

As of June 21st, 510 captains and 578 first officers have donated to the flight
pay loss campaign, bringing our total participation level to 1088 pilots. This represents
63% of the 1729 eligible pilots currently on the property. Each of you who have donated
are eligible for the white “contract 2000” pin. We know that those pins get
broken or lost from time to time. For a replacement call Sandi Siniaho at our office;
she’ll check the roster and send you a new one.

ALPA has broadened its recommendation to refuse all land-and-hold-short operations
clearances to include all Canadian airports. Earlier this month, ALPA’s Canada Board
unanimously approved a resolution recommending that all ALPA pilots refuse to participate
in LAHSO in Canada until ALPA’s safety requirements are met. To sum it up, don’t
accept any LAHSO clearances at any U.S. or Canadian airport, under any circumstances.

When you look back at past jobs you’ve had, it’s always the people you remember
most. We’ve got one that’s decided to become a memory a little bit sooner than
we expected. Captain Dave Krone has decided to hang it up a couple of years early. Dave is
one of the best guys who’s ever worked at this airline and I expect to see all his
friends out at the airport next Monday, June 26. His last flight is flight #2436 from
Albuquerque, which will arrive at 12:31pm. Please join us at the terminal to help Dave
celebrate his many years of service to America West.

The next local council meeting is set for July 11 at 6pm at the Doubletree Guest Suites,
320 No. 44th Street. All pilots in good standing are encouraged to attend.
