  Don Steinman
for the MEC. Subjects:

MEC Chairman Don Steinman, along with Vice Chairman Darcy Pierce, and MEC Chairman-elect
Roger Cox met with AWA Executive Vice President Gil Mook yesterday. The MEC called the
meeting to allow Captain Cox, in his Central Air Safety chairman role, the opportunity to
share his concerns over flight and ramp safety at the airline, including pilot scheduling
issues. In a generally positive response Mook thanked pilots for their support of the
Early Alert program, and encouraged all to continue to comply with established procedures
for maintenance write-ups.

The next PHX Council 62 Local Council meeting will be next Thursday, August 26 at the
Doubletree Hotel, 44th Street and Van Buren in Phoenix. The meeting will be
held from 5pm to 8pm, followed by a reception from 8pm to 10pm. Several national officers
will be our guests at the meeting, including ALPA President Duane Woerth. In addition,
both the outgoing and newly elected MEC officers will be on hand for the meeting and the
reception. All members in good standing are encouraged to attend, and–as this is an open
meeting–spouses are welcome.

If you are a holder of warrants for America West stock, remember that these warrants will
expire on August 25 if not exercised on or before that date. The warrants were issued when
the company emerged from bankruptcy in 1994. Instructions for exercise of warrants were
recently mailed to warrant holders of record. If you have not received these instructions
or need further assistance call Harris Trust Company at 800-926-5864.

The Family Awareness Committee plans to hold its second family get-together on October 13
from 5pm to 9pm, at the Confederate Air Force Hangar at Falcon Field in Mesa. Refreshments
will be served, as well as hamburgers, hot dogs and brats. Admission is free to all pilots
and their families.
