New Committee and new Chairman appointments

Two new committees have been established:

The MEC established a new Flight Pay Loss Committee. Captain Sam Berghoff has agreed to

Flight Pay Loss program.

A Non-Rev Pass Travel Committee has been established to be the ALPA liaison with
management for contractual issues relating to pass travel. Volunteers are being sought for
this committee. If you have any interest in being chairman, or simply volunteering, please

    MEC Hotline
  This is
Communications Committee Chairman David Weeks with the Hotline Update.Tonight’s
topics are:

Congratulations are in order for Captain Roger Cox, First Officer Bill Archer, and Captain
Mike Calabrese. Each was elected as MEC officers at the MEC meeting held on August 3rd and
4th. Capt. Cox was elected MEC chairman; First Officer Archer was elected MEC
Vice Chairman; and Capt. Mike Calabrese was re-elected as MEC Secretary-Treasurer. Capt.
Calabrese is also the recently elected LEC secretary-treasurer. The new officers will
begin their two-year terms on September 1st.

Also, during this week’s MEC meeting, Captain Jerry Hargis was officially named
chairman of the Crew Meal Committee. Captain Eric Edwards was officially named chairman of
the Government Affairs Committee, and Captain Joe Heil and First Officer John McIlvenna
were confirmed as chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the Retirement and
Insurance Committee.

The Scheduling Committee has identified seven extra-contractual A320 A-day lines in the
B157 bid package. These lines were built without an A-day on the first day of the bid
period and, in seven cases, are built below 77 hours. ALPA has insisted, and Bid
Administration has committed, to guaranteeing any pilot awarded one of these lines 77
hours, with no commitment to fly, other than carry-in on Day 1. For additional information
listen to the Scheduling Committee message on the KIT system.

The first tabulation of the Contract 2000 pilot surveys has been returned from ALPA
National. The Negotiating Committee is pleased to announce that the response rate to the
survey was outstanding. The data from your surveys will now be used to help craft our
contract opener.

During the recent MEC meeting, the MEC received a detailed presentation from Phil
Comstock, president of the Wilson Center for Public Research. The Wilson Center previously
conducted telephone polling for the MEC last year. The presentation discussed how best to
use polling to sample pilot opinion before and during contract negotiations. The MEC will
resume Wilson Center-conducted telephone polling of the pilot group beginning this fall.
If you are called by the Center, please participate fully and honestly.

The update to Maestro mentioned in previous Hotlines has taken place. This update allows
pilots to enter generic bids in the trip Adjustment System. Unlike previous updates, home
users will not be notified if they are running the outdated version. Please run the
Maestro updater to download the newest version. If you do not have a copy of the Maestro
Home Access manual, it is available on the MEC Web site at www.awalpa.org.

As a result of Crew Resources modifying the bid package pairing format, Captain Dennis
Glauner has coordinated with FlightLine Software in updating EasyBid to work with the new
pairing data format. EasyBid users can download the update from the FlightLine Software
bulletin board. Consult your EasyBid manual for details.

As part of strategic preparations for our upcoming negotiations, all pilots who have not
yet turned in the phone tree information form should do so immediately. It is imperative
that we have accurate data in order to communicate with the membership during
negotiations. Forms are available in the T-4 breakroom.

Pilots interested in automatically receiving the weekly hotline updates, Crew
Accommodations notices, read file items, and America West news items via email, are
encouraged to join the Pilotnews electronic mailing list. Instructions on how to become a
subscriber are on the Communications Committee page on the Web site. If you don’t
have Web access, send an email to [email protected]. Sign up today, and you will find
it’s easier than ever to stay informed.

The next PHX Council 62 Local Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 26 at the
Doubletree Hotel, 44th Street and Van Buren in Phoenix. The meeting will be
held from 5pm to 8pm, followed by a reception from 8pm to 10pm. The agenda will focus on
reports from our outgoing MEC officers and an introduction to our newly elected MEC
officers. In addition, three of ALPA’s national officers will be featured
guests–ALPA President Duane Woerth; Vice-President of Administration Jerry Mugerditchian,
and Group C Executive Vice President Cress Bernard. Each will be on hand during the
meeting and the reception to follow. This is an open meeting: all members in good standing
and spouses are welcome.

Holders of warrants for America West stock should note that these warrants will expire on
August 25th and must be exercised before that date. You may be affected if you
own old America West Airlines stock issued prior to reorganization in August 1994. In
addition, there is a program available this month only under which small lots of stock may
be sold back to the holding company with no commission. For additional information, call
the America West stock information line at 693-5559 or Harris Bank at (800) 926-5864.
