  MEC Hotline
This
is MEC Chairman Roger Cox with the MEC hotline for Thursday, September 2, 1999.
Tonight’s topics are:

MEC Vice Chairman Bill Archer and I have joined Secretary-Treasurer Mike Calabrese as your
new MEC officers. Our two-year terms officially began yesterday, September 1. For those of
you not familiar with our structure, we MEC officers are elected by your Local Council
Representatives and have executive responsibility for day to day running of our offices as
well as providing coordination and leadership for all our efforts. When the four status
representatives sit in session with us we are then considered the full MEC. Although this
may seem confusing, it is part of the special democratic heritage of ALPA and conforms to
the Constitution and By Laws of our Association.

Our Local Council meeting, held last Thursday, August 26 in Phoenix, was our opportunity
to introduce ourselves. ALPA President Duane Woerth, along with Vice President Jerry
Mugerditchian, Executive Vice President Cress Bernard, and Executive Administrator Howard
Attarian, gave brief presentations, as well as answered questions from the group of about
50 pilots. LEC Chairman jack Ryan presented outgoing MEC officers Don Steinman and Darcy
Pierce plaques commemorating their term in office and recognizing their many valuable
contributions to our pilot group.

Several pilots have called the MEC office to complain about Crew Scheduling’s message
in Maestro about flight pay loss. Crew Scheduling added the message to inform all pilots
that if you make a flight pay loss donation, it will appear as FPL on your line. The
message does not mean that a donation has been made without your consent. A donation can
only be made to the flight pay loss fund with the consent of the contributing pilot.

Several items were distributed to all pilot T4 mailboxes on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Those
items included PBS on the LINE, Contract 2000 unity stickers, new bag tags, and a
corrected card with the LEC contact numbers. The previous LEC contact card contained an
incorrect phone number for LEC representative Gary Bakewell. The new card has Gary’s
correct phone number, which is 602-684-1103.

As a reminder, Wilson Center telephone polling will resume this month. When the Wilson
Center calls, remember that the pollster is an official representative of the MEC. The
information you provide will be a direct link between you and the MEC and Negotiating
Committee as we continue preparations for Contract 2000 negotiations. Please take the time
to complete the poll.

All members in good standing and their families are invited to our second Family Awareness
get-together on October 13 from 5pm to 9pm, at the Confederate Air Force Hangar at Mesa
Falcon Field. Refreshments will be served, as well as hamburgers, hot dogs, and bratwurst.
Admission is free to all pilots and their families.
