America West Pilots Reach Agreement with Airline on Scheduling System Implementation

“The agreement
resolves contractual roadblocks that have kept this pilot group in suspended animation for
three years,” Steinman said. “The agreement marks the end of four months of
negotiations and allows for the implementation of a computerized pilot scheduling system
known as preferential bidding. The agreement also contains an industry-leading system for
resolving future disputes between the pilot work force and management.”

Before implementation of this
agreement, the America West pilots will have the opportunity to ratify the changes in a
balloted ratification vote. Ballots will be mailed to pilots in mid-August. The results of
the vote will be available around mid-September. The America West Master Executive Council
plans to hold meetings throughout the month of August to inform its members of the details
of the agreement.
