America West MEC Hotline for Aug. 9, 2001

The
Negotiating Committee concluded this week’s negotiations today,
and we regret that very little progress was made. Please listen
to Pete Neff’s KIT System update, which was recorded this afternoon,
for more details.

As a result of the reduction bid issued by the company in May,
the first class for captains returning to the right seat begins
in a few weeks. Ironically, this first class consists of all
Airbus captains, a position which the company seems to always run
short on. We continue to receive reports crew of scheduling
pressuring pilots to fly during vacations and days off. At a
time when some pilots are temporarily going backwards, we ask
that you not agree to any non-contractual voluntary flying. This
only gives management the excuses they need to continually
undermine our contract and work you beyond safe and sane flying
limits.

Labor
Day Events
Your
SPC and Family Awareness Committees need your participation in some
important events this Monday in honor of Labor Day. These include
the annual AFL-CIO Labor Day parade in downtown Phoenix, informational
picketing and leafleting at Sky Harbor Airport and a Family Awareness
Luncheon at the Pointe South Mountain Resort in Phoenix for members
and their families. For more information on any of these events, go
to the SPC website at www.awaspc.com, check the postings on the ALPA
board in the Terminal 4 Pilot Lounge, or call the MEC office at (602)
306- 4100. If you plan on participating, please complete the R.S.V.P.
form on the SPC website or call the MEC office and let us know which
event or events you plan on attending. These events will be a great
opportunity for you to interact with your fellow ALPA members and
their families and show support for your Negotiating Committee.

about upcoming events that require your participation. Even if you
believe we have the correct information, please take a few moments
to use the form on the SPC website to ensure we know the best way
to get in touch with you, and be sure to include your e-mail address.
