ALPA representatives participated
in a conference call this morning with America West to discuss effects
of today’s tragic events in New York and Washington. All America
West aircraft have been accounted for and are safely on the ground.
In response to the FAA’s grounding order, America West has cancelled
all flights through tomorrow morning. All our crews who were on
layovers in New York have been contacted and are safe. Accommodations
are being made for crews on layovers in other cities and those crews
who were on flights diverted to alternate airports.
ALPA security personnel are urging
all members stay away from airports and wear civilian clothes so
as not to be targeted by terrorists for any further activities.
The MEC has agreed to temporarily
suspend work rules to help the company move crews and aircraft during
this emergency.
If any members need assistance of
any kind, please contact the MEC office at (800) 632-2925 and we
will put you in contact with the appropriate people. Thank you for
your cooperation during this difficult time. We will update this
hotline as more information becomes available.
