2. Halloween Bash
3. Hotel Update
4. Grievance Committee Needs Your Help

MEC News
Last Friday, gate and ticket agents began voting on whether to recognize
the Teamsters as their bargaining agent. To support their organizing efforts,
Teamsters President James Hoffa was at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas yesterday
speaking at a rally attended by about 300 Teamsters members and supporters.
We encourage all of you to show your support of the Teamsters’ efforts
in your conversations with gate and ticket agents. Their votes will be
counted on Nov. 8.

Next week, the MEC and most of the ALPA
office staff will be in Florida for the biennial ALPA Board of Directors
meeting. In addition to several agenda items, elections for the four national
officers and 11 executive vice presidents will be conducted. Your MEC
will remain in touch with you via e-mail and cell phone and will provide
periodic updates from the meeting. If you need to get in touch with them,
call the office and they will get back to you as quickly as possible.

The next Local Council meeting is scheduled
for Wednesday, October 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Suites, 320 N.
44th Street in Phoenix. The main purpose of this meeting will be to determine
nominees for the four Local Council status representative positions and
Local Council secretary-treasurer for terms that start March 1, 2003.
You should have received a nominating ballot by mail already; if you have
not received a ballot call Robert Novak at 1-800-871-0899, ext. 4212 to
request one. Ballots will also be available at the meeting on Oct. 30.

Halloween Bash
Family Awareness Chairman Archie Turnbull and his wife Xinia are
planning a blow-out Halloween party for pilots and their families next
Saturday, October 26. In addition to great food, drinks, music and dancing,
there will be costume contests for both the kids and the adults and lots
of extra treats for everyone. Members of the Negotiating Team will be
on hand to provide the latest update on our progress toward completing
Contract 2000. The bash starts at 7 p.m. at the Mesa Centennial Center,
263 N. Center Street. To R.S.V.P. or for more information, contact the
Family Awareness Committee at 480-982-1120.

Hotel Update
Hotel Committee Chairman Mike
Plapp sent out via e-mail today the latest update on some of the recent
changes in our layover hotels. If you haven’t provided us with your e-mail
address, go to cf.alpa.org, log in and select “Edit Your Preferences”
in order to be added to our e-mail list. In the meantime, you can read
Mike’s update on the Hotel Committee page of the MEC Website. If you have
comments on any layover hotel or transportation service, you can e-mail
the Hotel Committee at [email protected].

Grievance Committee Needs Your Help
The Grievance Committee is looking for a few volunteers who are willing
to join the committee and assist in processing pilot grievances. Your
work on this committee will go a long way toward making a difference for
all pilots at America West. Interested pilots can contact Jon Dudeck at
602-418-6902. Also, the committee asks pilots who submit grievances to
include as much background information on your issue as possible to assist
in making your case stronger.

That’s all for tonight; the next regular
hotline update will be on Thursday, October 24. Thanks for listening.
