MEC Hotline

This is Eric Edwards with the MEC Hotline
on Thursday, October 24. The following is the only item for tonight; look
for a more extensive hotline message next Thursday. The following is a
joint statement from the America West, Alaska and Comair MECs:

At yesterday’s session, the ALPA Board
of Directors elected national officers and executive vice presidents.
America West belongs to group B1, which includes pilots from Alaska and
Comair.

After joint agreement, the MEC delegates
from all three airlines determined that collectively putting forward one
nominee would best exemplify the theme of this year’s BOD meeting: One
Union, One Voice, One Mission. As a result, the Group B1 delegates unanimously
agreed upon one candidate and elected, by acclamation, Captain J.C. Lawson
of Comair. The group believed that through his experiences at Comair and
his work within the Association and with government agencies, Captain
Lawson best represented the three airlines. You may recall that as MEC
Chairman, Captain Lawson successfully led his pilots through an 89-day
strike, which culminated in the signing of an industry-changing contract.

This election process has strengthened
the excellent relationship that had already been established among our
pilot groups. The delegates and officers of all three airlines have pledged
to continue working together and supporting each other on behalf of all
Comair, Alaska and America West pilots.

Don’t forget the Family Awareness Committee’s
Halloween Ball and Bash this Saturday, starting at 7 p.m. at the Mesa
Centennial Center.

That’s all for tonight; the next hotline
message will be recorded on Thursday, November 1. Thanks for listening.
