Good evening, this is MEC Communications Specialist Scott Sherrin with the hotline message for Thursday, Aug. 16 . Today’s topics are:
Next Local Council Meeting
Capt. Joe Sottile
Midway Pilots
Terminal 4 Membership Meeting
60 Minutes Pilot Fatigue Program
Next Local Council Meeting
Capt. Joe Sottile
At its meeting last week, the MEC unanimously passed a resolution recognizing Capt. Joe Sottile for his years of service on behalf of America West pilots. Recently, Capt. Sottile stepped down from his position as chairman of the Professional Standards Committee. He has chosen to remain a committee member, realizing the importance of his many years of experience. The MEC would like to thank Capt. Sottile once again for his work on behalf of our pilots.
Midway Pilots
On Tuesday, Midway Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and announced it was cutting back its operations and furloughing 184 pilots. Some pilots were informed of the furlough as they completed flight segments, waited at layover hotels or checked in for trips. Many have been stranded away from home or away from base. These pilots have been given temporary employee IDs that gate agents will not accept for jump seat requests. The Midway MEC is requesting all ALPA carriers to continue offering these furloughed pilots jump seat privileges. Please extend this courtesy to your fellow ALPA members.
Terminal 4 Membership Meeting
The MEC has reserved the meeting room near the Terminal 4 food court on Aug. 22 from 0900 to 1700 to conduct informal discussions with members. MEC officers, representatives and members of the Negotiating Committee will be available to answer any questions you may have relating to Contract 2000 or other issues. Refreshments will be provided.
60 Minutes Pilot Fatigue Program
“Sleepless in the Cockpit,” the 60 Minutes segment on pilot fatigue that originally aired last October, is now available on tape for viewing in the MEC office. Our own Captain Rand Harrell was interviewed for this examination of an issue critical to all of us.
The next hotline will be Thursday, August 23. Thanks for listening.
