America West Pilots Elect Union Officers

PHOENIX
The governing body of the America West pilots union, a unit
of the Air Line Pilots Association, Wednesday elected officers who will begin
two-year terms effective Sept. 1,
2001
.

Captain Roger Cox, who flies
the B757 and is a 14-year veteran of the airline, was re-elected as the America
West pilots Master Executive Council (MEC) chairman. B757 First Officer Eric
Edwards
was elected vice chairman and Airbus Captain Ted
Phipps
was elected secretary-treasurer.

The coming months will be
critical to the America West pilots as we continue to negotiate a new contract
with our management, said Capt. Cox. The two newly elected MEC officers
and I are committed to helping our pilots achieve a contract that recognizes
the sacrifices we made in our first working agreement to help our airline
succeed.

The America West pilots began
contract negotiations in February 2000 and their current contract became amendable
on May 1, 2000.

Celebrating its 70th
anniversary, ALPA is the worlds oldest and largest pilots union, representing
66,000 members at 47 airlines in the U.S.
and Canada.
