America
West Pilots to Conduct Informational Picketing in Three Cities

PHOENIX – Uniformed pilots of America West
Airlines will conduct informational picketing in Tempe, Ariz., Las Vegas,
and Orange County, Calif. on Monday, Oct. 7 to show their increasing frustration
with the slow pace of contract negotiations.

“America West pilots have shown great
patience over the last 31 months of negotiations, but that patience is wearing
thin,” said Captain Herb Holland, chairman of the America West unit of
the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA).

Negotiations with management, which began in
February 2000, are currently being conducted under the direction of a federal
mediator. The two parties have not yet begun discussing key economic issues
including pay and retirement.

“We have consistently shown our commitment
to reaching a fair and equitable agreement as quickly as possible,” said
Captain Holland. “The time is long overdue for America West management
to show the same commitment at the negotiating table.”

Picketing will take place near America West
ticket counters, departure level, at the following locations and times (all
times are local):

* Las Vegas McCarran International Airport
9 to 11 a.m.
* John Wayne (Orange County) Airport 9 to 11 a.m.

In addition, picketing will take place outside
America West headquarters in Tempe, Ariz. from 9 to 11 a.m.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s oldest
and largest pilot union representing more than 66,000 pilots at 43 airlines
in the U.S. and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at http://cf.alpa.org.
