Side Letter Ballots
The side letters ballots are due January 31. Along with your ballot, you have received two
letters designed to assist you in evaluating your choice on this permanent change to your
contract.
As of today, management continues to evaluate the side
letters and has reached no decision.
The MEC remains neutral on the side letter issue and urges
all pilots to vote based on the pros and cons of the letters themselves.
MEC Chairman Ballot
This is a reminder that the MEC Chairman ballot is also due January 31.
Wilson Center Polling
The MEC has contracted with the Wilson Center for Public Research to conduct opinion
polling of America West pilots. The telephone polls will begin on February 1 and will be
conducted on a monthly basis. The Wilson Center will randomly select a representative
cross-section of pilots each month. If you are contacted via telephone by the Wilson
Center, please take the opportunity to voice your opinions.
Pilot-to-Pilot Program
As part of its continuing effort to improve communications, the MEC launched its
Pilot-to-Pilot program today. The program is designed to provide accurate and timely
information through one-on-one discussions among pilot members. Pilot-to-Pilot has proven
to be a successful program at other major ALPA carriers, such as Northwest and TWA. You
can recognize our Pilot-to-Pilot volunteers by their uniquely designed ALPA pin.
MEC Visit to Washington
The MEC met with ALPA National officers Capt. Duane Woerth and Capt. Jerry Mugerditchian
in Herndon, Virginia earlier this week. Topics of discussion included additional legal and
political support for America West pilots. These concerns were heard and well received,
however the MEC intends to ensure these concerns will not be forgotten.
The next scheduled hotline update is Thursday, January 29.
Thank you for listening.
