Merger Talks
The MEC is continuing its efforts to get as much information as possible concerning the
possible merger discussions between America West and various other airlines. However, we
have not learned of any new developments. Numerous rumors are circulating within the
industry. No announcements have been made by America West or any other airline.
We would like to re-emphasize to all pilots that this
hotline and Mr. Bill Franke should be your primary sources of accurate
information. Your MEC pilot-to-pilot volunteers and committee chairmen will also receive
regular detailed briefings from the MEC so that they may also address many of your
questions and concerns. Any other sources should be considered inaccurate.
Last week, our Merger Committee met with our Merger
Counsel; and in essence, we are ready for any action that America West may take.
We encourage everyone to continue listening to this hotline
for updates.
R&I Summit
Capt. Jim Anhorn
Meanwhile, the retirement party scheduled for this Satuday,
January 30, has been postponed indefinitely. Stay tuned to the hotline for more
information.
Jannice Zambo
MEC office Secretary Jannice Zambo is continuing her treatment for liver cancer. Cards,
letters, gifts, and phone calls from concerned pilots have been much appreciated by
Jannice, and we encourage everyone to continue keeping in touch with Jannice to show how
much she is loved and missed. Any correspondence to Jannice may be sent to her via the MEC
office.
That concludes this week’s Hotline update. Fly safe; fly
your contract; and wear your pins and ribbons. The next scheduled hotline update will be
on Thursday, February 4. However, updates will be made as new information concerning the
merger talks comes in. Thanks for listening.
