Merger Talks
As of today, the MEC has not received any new information concerning America West’s
merger discussions with various other airlines. We would like to re-emphasize to all
pilots that this hotline, the Pilot-to-Pilot volunteers, committee chairmen, and an
official company statement should be considered your only sources of accurate information.
Please continue listening to this hotline for updates.

Cancelled Vacations

Flight Attendants

We encourage pilots to continue wearing the green ribbons
in support of the flight attendants and their efforts in obtaining their first contract
with America West.

That concludes this week’s Hotline update. Fly safe; fly
your contract; and wear your pins and ribbons. The next scheduled hotline update will be
on Thursday, February 11. However, updates will be made as new information concerning the
merger talks comes in. Thanks for listening.

MEC HOTLINE
This is Communications Committee
Chairman David Weeks with the MEC hotline for Thursday, February 4, 1999. Tonight’s
topics are:

According to Tom Chiodo, manager of Manpower Planning, many, if not all, of the previously
cancelled 1999 vacations will be reinstated. The reinstatement is apparently due to the
scheduled delivery of several new airplanes later this year, which may create an equipment
bid this spring. Crew Scheduling is in the process of informing those pilots whose
vacations will be reinstated. We will continue to monitor this situation to ensure
compliance with the contract.

The National Mediation Board has suspended contract talks between America West and the
AFA, the union representing its flight attendants, pending further evaluation and
discussion by the Board. Talks between the two broke down in late January, and the AFA
again asked to be released from the talks so that a 30-day cooling off period can begin.
The AFA has reiterated that the flight attendants are preparing to implement CHAOS once
they have been released from the talks and the 30-day cooling off period has ended.
