Local Council Meeting
Approximately 40 pilots turned out for last night’s Local Council meeting. Several
committee reports were presented during the meeting, including a detailed discussion by
members of the Negotiating Committee on preparations for Contract 2000 negotiations.

We were also privileged to have Frank Zambo attend the
meeting and receive a special plaque from the MEC in tribute to his wife, Jannice Zambo,
who passed away a few weeks ago.

Age 60 Retest Arbitration

AWA Reorganization

First, the position formerly held by Richard Goodmanson has
in effect been split into two new executive vice president positions. The Executive Vice
President, Corporate Group position goes to Doug Parker, formerly Senior Vice President,
Finance, a substantial promotion for Mr. Parker. The Executive Vice President, Operations
and Chief Operating Officer position goes to Gil Mook, formerly Senior Vice President of
Air Operations for Fedex, and a retired Air Force pilot. With the arrival of Mr. Mook, a
pilot will hold the COO position, and oversee operations and maintenance, for the first
time in America West history.

A number of other departments were shuffled and lines of
authority redrawn, including the shift of Labor Relations out of Human Resources.

The MEC plans to meet with Mr. Mook later this month.

PBS Update

Daily Operations Phone Changes

Note that the Irregular Operations phone numbers will not
change.

Fenix Flight
The Fenix Flight will be sent to the printer tomorrow, Friday, April 16, after several
weeks of delays. The issue will be the March, April, and May edition. Pilots should start
receiving it in their home mailboxes within the next two weeks.

KIT System Updates

In the meantime, a flyer explaining how to navigate to the
various hotlines on the KIT system has been posted on the bulletin board at Terminal 4.

That concludes this week’s update. Fly safe, fly the
contract, and thanks for listening. The next scheduled hotline will be Thursday, April 22.

  MEC Hotline
This is Communications Committee Chairman David Weeks with the MEC hotline for
April 15, 1999. Tonight’s topics are:

The Age 60 re-test grievance, aka the Ed Sherman case, was heard at this past Monday,
April 12. MEC Contract Administrator Andrew Shostack and ALPA Assistant Director of Legal
Jim Johnson presented our case; Bill McCoy and Rich Domholt were ALPA’s witnesses. All did
an excellent job. The next step will be the issuance of closing briefs, due forty-five
days after receipt of the hearing transcript. The earliest we can expect a decision from
Arbitrator Sinicroppi is in July.

MEC Chairman Don Steinman and Council 62 Chairman Jack Ryan met with Bill Franke this week
for a briefing on the reorganization of senior management. Several changes are of key
importance.

The Company has sent the PBS, captain no-fly, and professional standards side letters to
the printer. Once these letters have been distributed to pilot mailboxes, the Association
will sign the DRD thereby permitting AD-OPT to begin programming the PBS software.
Programming is expected to take approximately 18 weeks. We will keep you informed of any
further developments.

Daily Operations is scheduled to move out of Centerpoint and into the 52nd
Street complex on Saturday. Daily Ops’ new phone numbers have not yet been announced;
however, if you need to contact Scheduling, continue to call the old number for a
recording that will inform you of how to contact the department.

Several committees have new updates on their KIT system hotlines. The Security,
Scheduling, Hotel, and Central Air Safety committees all have new messages with important
information. All pilots are encouraged to listen to the hotlines at the end of this
message.
