ALPA Board Approves Council 62 Restructuring
Ballots were counted in Herndon this afternoon in the ALPA Board of Directors (BOD) vote
on our proposal to restructure Council 62. We’re pleased to report that the BOD
overwhelmingly approved our proposed amendments to the Constitution and By-Laws, with over
99 percent of the ballots cast in favor of the changes.
The constitutional amendments will result in significant
changes to the way your MEC is structured, with the changes to take effect March 1st of
next year. As discussed in our MEC Directions newsletter in June, the changes allow us to
double the number of elected representatives serving as MEC members, from the current two
to four, and have three at-large MEC officers in addition.
In order for the changes to be complete March 1st, we will
conduct elections this fall for the two LEC captain representatives, the two LEC first
officer representatives, and one LEC secretary-treasurer. Those elected will take office
on March 1st and serve two-year terms. The current MEC officers will remain as MEC
chairman, MEC vice-chairman, and MEC secretary-treasurer until August 31st of next year.
Note, however, that while they will remain as MEC officers, Steinman and Pierce will not
run for the captain and first officer representative positions this fall
We are issuing a call to action for members in good
standing who wish to run for Council 62 captain rep, first officer rep or
secretary-treasurer. If you’re interesting in running for office, it is time to announce
your intentions. Nominating ballots will be distributed in mid-September. Look for a
written discussion of the election timeline in your pilot box shortly.
